Wavefront measurements - This "maps" how light rays travel through the eye to provide a 3-dimensional image, which enables eye surgeons to locate and possibly correct even obscure imperfections that cause vision defect

Wavefront mapping helps eye doctors detect sometimes obscure vision imperfections (aberrations) overlooked in traditional vision tests. Wavefront diagnosis also can be used to prescribe traditional lenses such as eyeglasses or contacts.

Astronomers originally used wavefront measurements to help adjust telescopes to compensate for aberrations in light rays created by the Earth's atmosphere, which deflects and alters light's path.
